Looking closer at Pipi, what we can see is really an average child. With her carrot-red hair, her potato-shaped nose, her freckles and a peculiarly wide mouth, she's bound to grow into a frustrated and bitter person. However, because of her outstanding traits of character, Pipi turns all flaws into virtues. From an average girl she gets to be a special one. From a lonely to an independent one. From a weak into the strongest girl in the world. First of all, with unbelievable ease, this girl manages to save the warmth and closeness in the world which tries to place children into common and, of course, conventional patterns of conduct. The charm of Pipi's advantages is in the fact that she follows her impulses, ignoring all obstacles. She simply makes her dreams come true, disregarding the adult world, in which forbidding and orders dictate which way the children's wishes are heading. Pipi, however, wanting very much to keep her own identity, never endangers the identity of others. On the contrary, she has a strong feeling for fairness and social justice. It is only when her playful spontaneity faces the narrow-minded conventions of the adult world that its absurdity is revealed.
