The performance Svarozic is based on old beliefs of much older, bigger folks who we are just a small part of. Those old and ancient folks of ours roamed the ancient world, looking for a place to get settled and skills which would help them survive the winter and feed their children.
It was always part of human nature to search for those responsible for their fortunes and misfortunes, because no one can accept the fact that their tree died or the crops perished for no particular reason. This is how tales about gods came into existence- to explain what had happened in that ancient world and why it had happened.
The Croatian customs are specific, as they are a blend of old Slavic deities and Christian saints, so the picturesque agricultural year, from sowing to harvest, vintage and slaughter, is accompanied by patron saints, whose faces hide obscure, almost faded features of older and darker gods who we will try to save from the foggy past.
